The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive. For example, most thoughts are repetitive—thoughts about the future and the past. It is a dreadful affliction, but we often don’t realize what is happening because we have become accustomed to it.
Today, as a way of noticing what is between you and awareness, see if you can catch yourself overthinking, complaining to yourself, or listening to the running conversation in your mind. Some of our thoughts are negative and invariably carry an unconscious negative charge.
Whenever you notice that some form of negativity has arisen within you, look on it not as failure, but as a helpful signal that is telling you: “Wake up. Get out of your mind. Be present.”
